In October 2007, we undertook an urgent & critical Heavy Lift Project offshore on the cement plant at Langkawi Island for Lafarge Cement Plant during a major shut down repair of their jetty cement loader (weight 45mt), which is located 1km offshore.
Our 230 tonnes Manitowoc 4100W Series 2 was required to be urgently mounted securely on a barge (180ft long x 60ft breath), in order to complete the task of lifting the cement loader offshore from the Jetty installation at the height of 17m (above seawater level). After 2 weeks, the relevant repairs were completed on the cement loader which was carried out onshore at a separate sub-jetty of the cement plant, the repaired cement loader was lifted back onto its installation at the offshore jetty.
The entire critical Heavy Lift project was completed in record time successfully within a span of 24 days, which included approx. 10 days needed during Mob/Demob of our 230 tonnes crane between Ramunia/Johor & Langkawi Island as well as time taken for completion of RORO Operations, Assembly/Disassembly works of crane, Load spreading requirement & lashing works on the barge.
The shorter period of completion for this critical Heavy Lift project had enabled the Lafarge Cement Plant to save significantly towards the total cost of shut down of their plant production.
